Promoting Igbo Culture and Community in the Philadelphia Region
ASA-Phila Cultural Dance Team
Though born and raised in the United States, Odera Ifeoma Ekwunife proudly hails from Abba in Njikoka LGA, Anambra State. As a first-generation Nigerian-American, the traditions and values of her people were instilled in her from an early age and she enjoys representing her heritage to the highest extent. Odera has been a member of the beloved ASA-Philadelphia community since its early onset. Daughter of pioneers Dr. and Dr. Mrs. Sunny Ekwunife, she is involved in the Youth group and its Cultural Dance Team.
With a passion for health, she recently graduated from Temple University with a B.S. in Public Health, minor in Biology, and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health degree at the George Washington University in D.C. She aspires to be an OB/Gynecologist practicing here and in Nigeria. She is also the CEO/Founder of simplyIFEOMA, an event-servicing company. As her Father always says, “the greatest gift, apart from life, is the gift of choice”. Likewise, she chooses to spend her time living, laughing, learning and ultimately loving each day given. Many congratulations and love to ASA-Philadelphia!
The Anambra State Association Youth Cultural Dancers truly embrace the beauty of the Nigerian culture through our various dances and performances. We aspire to uphold the mission of our Association by being an avenue of exhibition, fusing the traditional and modern aspects of our culture in dance. We showcase the vastness of our Anambra heritage with dances ranging from the Ogene-driven Atilogwu to Makossa, Sunny Bobo to Oliver De Coque and beyond! We are dedicated to preserving our Igbo dance culture by including the vibrant Youth of our ASA-Philadelphia Branch as members of this ever-growing team. We believe in the importance of our peers learning, appreciating and upholding our rich dance traditions and culture.
Our cultural dance team is also actively involved in fundraising for the Anambra State Association. We believe charity does indeed begin at home, and likewise forward proceeds to the continued development and progress of our beloved Association. ASA-Phila, may you continue to shine. Udo!
